Another Sunday is here and almost gone. What have I been doing to get here again. Well basically heaps. I have been busy putting the translations together for International Services at the uni. Boring and time consuming, lucky I get paid by the hour. The prolblem with it is that I need to get it done but I have too much other stuff to do with my own business. I have got some of the major parts of my software going. I want to finish it by the end of the week, before Lauch disapears for a month overseas.
Friday I help Toni (Tonestar) to create her blog. There is another one of us writing shite for others to read. But isn’t that the point?
I have also watched a heap of films over the last couple of weeks.
Troy - A heap of us trekked to the C-Max to see this flop of a film. We I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it, but I can’t say I really did either. It was just so… blah. I wasn’t bored, yet I wasn’t excited or much interest either. Eloise loved it, and good for her. Atleast they will make some money from her when see buys it on DVD. I am really starting to get over these “epic” films. I want someone to make one that makes me grip my chair and gasp at it coolness. But I fear that Holiwood couldn’t do that if it tried. The epic is already starting to go the way of the boring and bad like they did the first time around.
Infernal Affairs - A Hong Kong police drama/action flick. I loved it. Glad I voted this very cool film into Film Society showing.
The Apartment - An old 1960’s film with Jack Lemmon and Shirley Maclean (spelling?). Funny and predictable. Nice to watch an oldie once in a while.
City of God - An interesting look at the slums of Brazil. Based on a true story, it is sorta scary seeing 10 year olds shotting each other.
Dead or Alive - Brillient Miike does it again. The ending of this film is probably my all time faviourite ever. Can’t wait to watch the squeal.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - An interesting Britsh comedy. Very musical in setting, nice colour and photography. Plot wise, different and interesting but predictable. I found it fun, but maybe a bit slow.
Stir of Echoes - A small screen thriller with Kevin Bacon. Nice put together but predictable.
Starship Troopers 2 - Hammy and Predictable but lots of fun. I sorta like the idea of films based in a conceived universe, but unrealted to the orginal. Like novels based in role-playing worlds etc. I always think there is some protential to do fun things like this, and this movie did it for me. It was for the most part acted badly, but I liked it anyway.
Bubba Ho-tep - A very cool, little known black comedy staring the great Bruce Campbell. Strange to explain it, or recommend it, but I loved it.
Vanilla Sky - Finally got to see this film. Found ti fun and interesting, if not a little slow. A good one for a rainy day with nothing to do.
Master & Commander - Another epic, but thankfully no were as bad as Troy. Some really cool sequences.
So as you can see I have been watching lots of film.
I borrowed a book from Toni called Matching Powder. Probably the fasted novel I have read in years. It was just so easy to read. After trolling through the third Dune book Sooki brought me, it was like a breath of fresh air. I am loving the Dune novels, but they are so heavy to read, so time out with this novel was great. I must buy it for my dad to read. On that note I brought dad a novel called War Junkie, sounds really interesting. Its the story of a war journelist and his obsession about getting a thrill from going into really dangerous places. So hopefully dad will like it.
