Melbourne…

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

Came over to Melbourne yesterday for my Aunty’s funeral (today). I haven’t been here in about 5 years, so it is all very familar, but different. Hell, I couldn’t even remember what the comic book store was called. So I meet my brother and he showed me his exhibition, in a “adult” gallery, which is just 3 houses down from Chopper Reid’s local (he was outside the pub drinking). All very nice inside, very neat and tidy. Next we went to where we where crashing and meet Adrian, one of Alan’s comedian friends. Then proceeded to to talk about all things film and anime related. Evidently Duff, a comedian that saw my DVD collection, has told people in Melbourne about it. Maybe I need to set up a shrine, with donations etc and the register myself as a religion… maybe not.

So the next big thing was going to The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy talk by the executive producer and longtime friend of Douglas Adams, Robbie Stamp. This was brillient. He talk about the film, where it came from, all the problems and how long it took. He talk about how hard it was for Douglas to get it up and all the emotional problems that came with it. We got to see exculisive behind the sense footage that is for the DVD release. Robbie even told us what to look for in the background, as there are a lot of Douglas references and jokes hidden thoughout the film. I was relieved to here that all the changes in the film where made by Douglas himself before he died, so it is still a Adams piece of greatness. He answer questions and was very funny. Basically, if Dr Who was Chris’s tear jerker just because it was finally made, it goes without saying I am exactly the same about Hitchhiker’s. So Australia gets it 12 hours before the rest of the world, and I plan to make sure I see it at the CMAX or better.

Lastly lastnight went to Laugh Apolusa (spelling?). The is/was a comedy festiable gig featuring, John Safran DJ-ing, DUG, Scared Weird Little Guys, Bedroom Philosiper (spelling), Eddie Perfect, Renegades of Folk, and other I will add later to this post. It was all in the Umbrella Tent down at Federation Square and could only hold about 100 people or so. Very cool, very funny, and very late. The gig started at 11.30pm and we left at 2am and it was still going. Interesting meeting some of Alan’s comedian friends, though it was like; Photobat has a brother, we who would have guest it. I felt like a puppy just following along in Alan’s wake.

Anyway, it is 5 to 9 and got to finish getting ready for the trip to Point Lonsdale where the funeral is being held. I will blog more when I am back in Taswegia.
