Apple’s Denial of Service Attack

Thursday, June 30th, 2005

Early today Apple unleached the biggest DOS attack the internet has ever seen. They cunningly positioned a program update to the itunes that makes it seekout unsuspecting podcast websites and batters them with file request until something breaks, ie the operating system.

The beautiful thing about it was that the podcasting community knew about it in advance, but not the specifics. ie. which sites and when the program was getting released.

Some would call it a brilliant software innovation, but I call it a virus…

And in other news: Our podcast is getting royal downloaded and Hava.nl is happily holding up… suckers!

Tripping for work

No I ain’t taking acid for uni (but it sounds mightly fun). I have been to Sydney and Canberra last week for uni. 3 days in the big smoke of Sydney and 1 day in lazy small city of Canberra. Had an interesting time seeing CMS product vendors and meeting new people. Got to grill some open source developers and be wined and dined by some directors of one company. I also got to take in two films which I have reviewed over at Cool Shite. Mr & Mrs Smith and One Night in Mangkok which was part of the Sydney film festival. I also brought 6 CD’s even though I couldn’t afford it. I had a hellish time during the trip orginising uni pay (they fucked up) and my car loan. I even found out that other things had gone stupid at uni when I got back. So yesterday was all about setting things back to normal, getting payed, getting my loan and car and generally being sexy (it happens on occassion).

So this week I’m off to Melboune for two days for uni and will be visiting Cameron Reilly from the Podcast Network, chilling, talking movies and podcasts and generally having some fun.

In a side note, Cool Shite podcast is number 34 in the world (over 8000 podcast now) and number 2 in the movie review section. My head is getting bigger every time we advance up the ranks… soon I won’t be able to get in my nice fancy new car.
