My Podcast Gripe

Ok, as most of you know by now I have been podcasting with Chris, Quinny, Rhys and occassionally Ashley. If you didn’t know that, then goto www.coolshite.net and learn all about it. I am astounded how many people have subscribed and voted for us. We constantly sit around 1 or 2 in the movie category at Podcast Alley, and in the top 20 world wide. We did it as a bit of fun, an extenstion to our Tuesday movie nights. So now we are up to week 19 (this Sunday) and our audience just gets bigger. Hell we are up for a people’s choice award at the Podcast Awards. We even made it into iTunes podcast listing off the bat with no worked needed by me. So what is my gripe…

My Gripe

If you have been listening to podcasts, then you would have heard the name Adam Curry. Adam is considered one of the founders of Podcasting and is very active in the scene. He is a busy man with many things on his plate. He produces three shows I know of and only 2 of them are podcasts. His personal podcast: the daily sourcecode, The new Podfinder cast for iTunes and the radio show for Seious (spelling) Satellite radio in USA. My gripe is with Adam, he won’t read this, or even care. But fuck it, I need to write it down somewhere. Adam is a rude prick and has big blinkers on. I have emailed him promos and standard email and I realise that he more likely than not get shitloads every day, but it doesn’t excuse him not doing a one line reply say thanks for the email, etc. Really, I would be happy if I got an automated response to start with to say my mail has been recieved. Why does this erk me so.. well because I spent a shitload of time on our promo and didn’t even get so much as a thanks for sending it. I basically sent it to a black hole. The stupid thing is, I did another one and send it with the same response, ie NOTHING. Then you start to see faviourtism on Adam’s behalf coming in on his shows with the same promo’s for the same people he has meantion a heap of times. I don’t care that he didn’t play my promo, but no response to people who put some hard hours in is just plain rude, and I know other people that have the same issue. I am going to record another promo (why.. i don’t know) and bag the shit out of Adam and his useless email system and see if that gets some response. I am going to give it to all the “indy” podcasters out there that are also not feeling any love.

So to the Podfather as they call him… ANSWER YOUR FUCKING EMAIL.

I can understand your gripe. Its very similar to employers who don’t reply to job seekers, not even an acknowledgement that the resume was sent in. I realise that they may not have time to send replies to every person but I think its rude and bad practice. Same goes here, its pretty inconsiderate, no wonder people get disillusioned!

Maybe you could send your promo to some other people? I figure the more people you try, the more likely you are to receive a reply?

I have sent promo’s to others and everyone been really nice and good. The issue isn’t the promo overall, just the lack of reply. I ended up putting the promo in our podcast so I could say it wa used.

Anyway, my post was really a big vent… It very unlikely that Adam will ever read it, or my emails.

i happened to hear today on adam’s most recent source code that in his gmail account he has over 7 thousand emails unread.

so as u would gather from that, he wont be getting to yours in a while yet.

    peace, out.

I think that maybe Adam should get an assistant. Having too many emails to read is not an excuse and he will only keep making enemies!

  6. Andy Says:

Bruce: Fair call regarding wanting to know that your email was actually recieved in the inbox. A 1000+ email backlog certainly does warrant an auto reply of ‘email recieved’.

Oli: Paying an assistant purely for the purpose wading through what is for the most part emails full of bullshit, cmon get really. Would you do that if you were a popular public figure, ofcoarse not?

If you want to get your message onto someone who recieves a zillion messages the simple reality is that aint gonna happen by simply mailing them. You need to have the business brains to either create an association with them or do something to get their attention. Welcome to the real world rat race. This does not make them a bad person, If you think it does you need a reality check.

Bruce: Maybe you wanna think outside the box, something a bit more cunning to get Adam’s attention. But What…

  7. Bruce Says:

I have already think I have that covered.. more about that at the end of the month :-)
